Suffolk Underwater Studies was an active privately funded unit covering erosion, deposition and wreck and archaeology discoveries of the Suffolk coastline and offshore. It operated for 40 years and had extensive records. The small museum was a permanent showcase of the work undertaken, and exhibited some recovered ships timbers.
The museum was located above the Craft and Basket shop (up fairly steep and narrow stairs without risers) on the left hand side of the approach to Orford village centre. With the retirement of the curator, Stuart Bacon, the museum has closed and the records and exhibits have been passed to the Orfordness Lighthouse Trust.
