Amy Fellows presents an exhibition about her Arts Council Project with drinks and nibbles and a short talk in Orford Town Hall on Thursday February 3rd at 7.30pm. Entry £5 or free to Orford & District Gardening Club members (Annual fee £15).
Amy is an illustrator and garden designer. She has a love for collage, spray paint and printmaking. Her illustrations often feature sordid circus curiosities, a fascination with Victorian plumbing and all things nautical.
Graduating in 2015 with a first class Honours degree in illustration from Norwich University of the Arts and returning in 2017 to undertake an MA in Communication Design, Amy has made Norwich her home.
Amy is a commissioned street artist for Norwich BID, Norwich City Council and Coastal Currents in her home town of Hastings. She was the first Artist in Residence at Vision Norfolk.
The project aims to raise awareness and celebrate the life and work of Victorian female botanical artist Marianne North and to recognise North as relevant and revolutionary.
The Arts Council Project draws parallels between the environmental awareness that surrounded Marianne's work at the time with the environmental crises we are facing today.
Marianne North explored the world, painting flora and fauna, some never seen before and is responsible for the gallery that shares her name at Kew Gardens. The exhibition at Kew is the longest, solo, permanent exhibition of a female artists’ work in the world and opened in 1882. She donated over 800 paintings and built the gallery which houses the collection at her own expense.
